I know about the watt meters, but when the Inverter is fully loaded its drawing nearly 80amps, so the watt meters need to be robust.

I would like to know, with a bit more accuracy, what is coming out of my 1300ah batteries. I know what's going in to them and I know what kw's is coming out of the Inverter at 240vAc.

Any recommendations Please.

I think that 10 minutes max @ 80 amps would finish your batteries C/M.
                                 3.8kw on sealed lead acids would murder them unless you had the same or more coming in and even then they are being stretched to the max.That load would still be 32 amp if running at 120vdc,Massive.  ( I think)

I'm sure there's plenty out there to do the job. I would suggest something based on measuring the voltage across a shunt for the DC side.

There is a duel push buttom meter on fleabay(red or blue)
                           It comes with shunt and instructions,200amp and 200volt.I think they were around 20.00 each but I did pay 30 bout 2 years ago.Then I got 4 of them for 50.00 complete with heavy duty shunts and clear instructions.
     Some of these little meters look the same but the wiring is the opposite and the innards are slightly different.You really need to follow the instruction carefully.If you go through the online specs and fitting instructions you will see the warnings about this same thing.

Are clockman's batteries on their last legs then? 80 amps is only 0.06C and looking at a comparable battery size datasheet I see that they could handle 80 amps for 12 hours, and 52 amps for 20 hours sustained. 3.8kw is about 5hp, which is nothing for a forklift, so I'd expect to see far more current than that in every day situations.

Biff, When its sunny I get 3kw, soon to be 5kw. And if its windy then I get 3kw.

Even in ambient light I am still getting 500w.

Thanks then will have a go at the ones with shunts.

Just that the batteries seem to absorb about 25% so with a data meter I should be able to give some real figures.

Woo,
       80 amps just seems a massive draw to me.Thats all.I am used to much smaller amps and its a bit of a shock.There is also the fact that we dont drain or batteries down dead,We dont go below 12.4 and that means we only take about 12,5% or about that.If you start going below this you are killing the batteries and they will give up very quickly.So you are hardly likely to get the figures you are quoting unless you let the battery go to the bottom, Grin fight

eye eye Paul, well scrag my cat for dem der lovely batts.

Biff my 12v batts never ever go below 12.35v or 49.40v, I now have a master auto LVD, (Low Voltage Disconnect), Also have EricW's circuit that recognises when batts have gone to float mode, and diverts extra power on the 240vac side of the inverter to heat water or the under floor heating. It also switches the load off if the voltage goes below battery holding voltage of 52.00v .

This now means very minimal use of the Wind turbine dump loads.
