Dungeness B rector 1 is back on and reactor 2 is due back on this weekend, all helps!

Another station must have come off as it has been a steady bit under 8 since August.

I suspect the drop just below 8GW is due to increased loading, from some power stations, as decommissioning occurs, the apparent generation drops.

There was a step change from the total generation from nuclear on the 28th of October when Dungeness B went offline.  The plant has two reactors, around 565MW each, one is back up and running and the other is due on this weekend.

5.69GW of metered wind at 9.35 this morning - the needle is off the end of the scale!

5.73GW now, this game gets quite hypnotic.

Been a steady but low (last) week, so nice to see a pick up. I wonder when the new dial arrives, hope it's not on back order.

Wonder how much further it goes before the dial breaks?!
Nukes are back up over 8GW too I see.

We ran the geni yesterday evening for the third day. Cry
However before we tucked in for the night the batts were well up in their comfort zone and ready to tackle anything. Its a timely reminder that things dont always work out weather wise.If misty, damp and windless weather hangs around for 3 to 4 days and then its is really necessary to have the geni up and running.Today the wind is bearing down from the north east, not a great angle for us but enough to keep the batts happy.

6GW of metered gen must be some sort of record for the UK wind farms?

I did wonder how often the guy behind the gridtemplar site checks it,
and,
how to contact him,
to let him know all his fans 'here', needed the wind gauge re-calibrated.

If the UK 'only' needs 30GW tonight, and the wind keeps up:
Fission 8.1
Coal 16+/-
Wind 5-6
Pumped some
Hydro some
French interconnect 1-2,

we could see Gas at zero!

From Mespilus:-
If the UK 'only' needs 30GW tonight, and the wind keeps up:
Fission 8.1
Coal 16+/-
Wind 5-6
Pumped some
Hydro some
French interconnect 1-2,

Whereas last night here in Spain at 0600 hrs for a total of 26 gigs produced (22 for home consumption, the rest exported):-
Special Regime (solar, trash incineration, biomass) 4.5
Fission 5
Coal     2.9
Wind 12.4
Combined cycle 1.3
Pumped hydro -2.3 Pumping to storage
Interconnects -2. Exporting.

Spain has over 5 gigs capacity of hydro and pumped storage which is highly dispatchable: it is the enabler for the incorporation of so much renewable energy. Of course it has the advantage of lots of mountainous terrain country wide, giving plenty of opportunity for pumped storage. Even so, the UK definitely has some margin for more wind.

Wind has been doing well for a week now (apart from Friday), been chucking out 3+GW metered, so perhaps 4.5GW total. Also been very steady for 48 hours. I know it could drop at any moment, but matching/exceeding 'Drax' can't be bad .... can it?

Yes,
Both Saturday/Sunday night, and, Sunday/Monday night,
the wind was strong enough to cause both Gas and Coal to reduce electricity production.

We all routinely see Gas reduced below Wind parity on a blowy night,
but,
I do not remember seeing Coal being forced to shut down.

Anyone know which is the first Coal power station to slow/shut down.

Looks like the french are in trouble I have never seen so much export. Seems a bit of a waste exporting renewables

It's been blowing hard for quite a while now, almost feels normal for it to be in the 4GW and above segment now?

Interesting (well for me anyway) is also how up and down nuclear has been in the last week or so - it got up to 8.16GW for a bit, now it's fallen back again to "only" 7.1GW.

Seems like 9.3GW earlier this August is the highest nuke has put out in the last few years, with the lowest being, apparently, just 3GW in May 2012. Wonder what was going on then?!
