I stumbled across this this morning, what do people think? A solar pv panel that also incorporates a vacuum tube for solar thermal?

Nah.  Just put a few navitron heat pipes under your panels and let them transfer heat to atmosphere to cool under the panels?  If you want solar thermal get the whole kit of vac tubes, heat pipes and appropriate plumbing!  If you want PV get PV panels

Probably not much more efficient than a good airflow under the panels.

The PV collector size looks to be tiny; if you wanted a huge thermal array and a little electrical power, they might be convenient.  But at a huge cost premium, dare I say?

Gimmick in my book, until I see some real life figures to prove otherwise.

I've done a little work for New Form Energy which was is a competitor of Naked Energy.  I'm not an employee, but do like Anthony Morgan (CEO), so am declaring the connection. http://www.newformenergy.com/

There is definitely yardage in the fact that the energy density of generation is higher, so good for projects where space is limited and especially if higher codes have to be hit for flats.  It also works well for hotels, leisure centres, and hospitals.  The returns are also good when combined with heat pumps off the gas grid.

They have several test sites underway to try and prove it is cost effective for gas connected housing.  They don't yet have the proof though.

I believe they have solved stagnation issues, but don't have details on how, so can't vouch for it.

As with anything I'd recommend just contacting the company and see if you believe the spiel they give you, potentially bringing it back on here for the multitude of experts to pick holes in.
