That's why I put my 'jim jams' on first Desp, and this has nothing whatsoever to do with anything, but, when I was 14 I was lifted by the police for stealing a pair of rubber knickers from a factory that made them. Well you would wouldn't you, a teenager full of raging hormones coming across a pair of red rubber panties and a catalogue displaying 'other products', what would you do?? Wonder if they were better lightning protection?

Anyway, I managed to get off with a caution but had to give the undies back  Cry

Nah Biff, by the time I was 14 I'd got an air rifle. Funnily enough I got lifted by the police for that too, and it's how I met my first wife, in a Ford Escort 'panda car' trying to remove .177 pellets out of my pockets and hide them under the back seat.

Happy days, and she put up with me for 22 years  Shocked

The other day I took a look at the blown up battery, it seems the leak was due to two splits in the side of the casing, extending to about 2" below the water level.
I sealed the splits up with black mastic, and bound the sides with gaffer tape, and fashioned a new top out of an old distilled water container, it does not look pretty, but it seems to work.
I am hoping to get another year out of these old batteries.
