Hi all,
I have made it plain on a couple of posts that I have been interested in an easy battery option and the Growatt SP2000 looks easy, it's never going to be the hands on monster that can meet all households needs, however for the less savvy amongst us it seemed like a good enough option, nearly, however my concerns about it was single string 1 input and I have 2 strings with the biggest being 10 x 250 watts, which isn't really enough, nearly but not quite

Then a forum member mentioned a soon to be announced SP3000, sorry can't remember who, but I have been keeping an eye out for it, then found this earlier http://midsummerwholesale.co.uk/pdfs/growatt-sp1000-2000-3000.pdf
Which seems much more suitable for my needs and looks simple to install, though I would still pay the sparky that installed my system to do it properly.

the potential battery size has increased to 600ah, much better but a bit more would be better still so do we think I could add a larger forklift battery to it (no lithium) something in the 1000-1200ah range, I think the fact that the charger can handle both strings totalling 4000 watts actually make this into something that I can use usefully

So is it as simple as I think it might be, mount it near the inverter, feed both strings into it run feeds to the inverter with isolator so either side of it, then another isolator on a feed to the batteries?

An I missing something? I know that it won't supply enough.powerover winter but their is also the potential to add a mains powered charger to charge the bank overnight on cheap rate when the sun is down to be used during the day

Hi Sprinter,

I'm not fully up to speed on all the ins and outs of the Growatt system.  You ask about adding in 1000Ahr of fork lift battery.  The thing about L.Acid batts is that they need to get fully charged regularly.  That is to say, once discharged they need to be fully charged properly before use.  If your proposal can't reliably achieve that then you are likely to stuff the lead acid batteries quite quickly. A 1000 amp battery, fully discharged will want to be charged at around 100amp hr rate for a number of hours. Number of hours depends on depth of discharge. Given losses in the system may be 20% in total you'd have to do the math to see if the cheap rate would be viable against the investment/payback. Bearing in mind fork lift batteries do have a finite life.
