Author Topic: Can I change a 12 volt trbine into a 24 volt turbine ?  (Read 2739 times)
« on: August 04, 2006, 09:40:11 AM »

I  am currently running a  12 volt 300 watt navitron turbine charging a bank of batteries,

I  realise now that  maybe a 24 volt system would be better  for me, could I buy a 24 volt charge controller and swap it for the 12 volt one or is it not as simple as that ?

A 24 volt system may not provide any benifits.
Why do you want to change?

I was told it is more efficient but am open to suggestions ?

The most efficient option is to use the turbine at the voltage it was designed for. You can sometimes get more power at lower wind speed by using a higher voltage turbine at low voltage, but this is not representative of all wind conditions, and should be viewed as a marginal advantage only. There is only a certain amount of energy available in the wind, and it is not possible to exceed a theoretical maximum, regardless of how you configure your turbine.
