Looking at it again it is clear that the structure is based on girder 'trusses' each side of the dormer windows, so the centre beam is there to brace the bottom chords of the girders.

Here is a link to Photobucket Album with a load of pics, including a few exterior shots. Sorrry they are in no particular order.
Try and ignore the stud walls. As most of the internal wall sections needed breaking up and re making i tacked those in place as i made them!
It will also make 1st fix easier for the sparkie and plumber (or me if the plumbers don't get back to us soon)

There are new pics of the kit plans, and the original Architects floor plan with Engineers notes.
I have rotated them to landscape to hopeful make them display large enough to read!

There are a couple of sketches showing the altered floor plan (not to scale) - notes on those were for the Architect and Engineers as reference. In the kitchen you will notice a short wall section by the exterior door... this is the Diaphragm/Buttress wall section i mentioned a few posts back...
