Car industry on alert over reports some hybrids face a ban

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-44008098

Quote
New cars unable to do at least 50 miles on electric power may be banned by 2040, a ruling that would hit the UK's best-selling hybrid, Toyota's Prius.

So "They" have 22 years to improve efficiency; I should hope so to. Hysterical nonsense reporting, the Prius won't ever be in production in 2040. ashamed that it's on the BBC.

It's a bit like worrying that Ford wouldn't be able to sell new Escorts this year...

Jeez.

Just when we should be saying no ice’s full stop the industry nonsense starts saying 30 miles is good enough.

God if they had said we can do 100 miles in that time I would still be weasel peed off.

We are on the doorstep of “normal” cars doing 150 to 200miles.  In another 10 years, if they don’t have a nonsense ‘get out of jail free card’ they should be pushing 250-300.

ingrates, the lot of them.

That does seem a bit daft, unless it's just to draw a line in the sand that can be strengthened every few years.

I can't imagine there being any hybrids by that time, perhaps some range extenders, so BEV + ICE, rather than ICE + BEV, but no point in a hybrid as batt costs continue to fall so fast.

The people in government whom are responsible for this scurrilous rumour trail should reprimanded by the likes of the old Bishop of Bath and Wells!!
What type of hybrid is supposedly to be banned must be clearly defined. Some bureaucrat or politician is really not placed to make such a proclamation.
It is not like HMG to make long term policy decisions on anything and stick to it, especially regarding transport and energy policy.
