After expecting some records over the summer with the odd storm and being disappointed because of all the wind curtailment, we seem to have hit a new record today.
Colder weather and less solar seem to have reduced the curtailment on the wind generation and we hit 11.47GW at 15:34 today.
Currently still very high at 11.34GW.

Trying to figure out where energynumbers get their data from - the National Grid website has split with the ESO site. As demand is now dropping and wind is still near record, gas is now dropping down to 7.5GW now.
The question is will we hit a new low for gas before the wind is curtailed ?

BMReports only has the windfarms that are directly connected to the transmission grid, and are operationally metered individually by National Grid, so those are always underestimates. My EnergyNumbers figures combine those with the National Grid estimates of embedded wind.

The inclusive fig looks low as the embedded capacity is nearew an additional 40% ??
During the night the nat grid wind might have touched 40% of total transmitted leccy which could put it at 50% included embedded. Pretty good.

I looked back at the historic gridwatch data for last night and the highest wind generation was 11.72GW at 19:20.  So that's now the gridwatch highest wind benchmark to beat.

Wind hit a new generation record on the 9th November, of 14.5 GW. The async share (wind + PV + interconnectors) has been up to 59.3%, from my calcs - that was back in July this year. And yeah, on the night of the 9th Nov, it was over 50% from 10pm. It's exceeded 50% in 356 half-hour periods in total, now. And that's something that a few years ago the doubters were saying would be unmanageable, ever.

Offshore is still a smallish proportion, isn't it? I've been meaning to check the capacity factors of newer offshore farms to understand what kind of capacity factors total output will trend towards.

Coupled with the Hornsea news, think we might expect something nearer 16GW by next winter. Wish the build out were faster.
