I love it Andy, That is a really good idea. I had a similar idea years ago but mine went up through he roof and the last 10ft were telescopic. Unfortunately I learned from the cherry picker that certain designs are riddled with all kinds of noises and it would play havoc with the peace and quiet. That design there could possibly be a lot quieter but i would not bet on it. I recall the racket that the cherry picker used to make in a gale. When the turbine braked, A small 600 watt Y/S. The pins and bushes used to rattle like blazes ,,so loud that even i could hear them in the house. The thing took on a life of it,s own, The gib would waltz about like a drunken stork, and send me running around the place like a headless chicken trying to get the battery charged to lower it. In the end I guyed it and sent the jib up tight on the guys. That worked OK it was still noisy. I sold the cherry picker. It should have been a winner but honestly, I was baffled by the way that it took offense at all my efforts to tame it. It was a great idea but the reality was different. It was lethal. Biff.

Phase one complete ............Rutland 503 is erected at maximum 3m . No higher than permitted -seriously miserable neighbours ..... Directly coupled to 10w 12v bulb as a load -keeps glowing as gusts pass............ Now to acquire inverter..watch this space . George

would you be better charging a battery with it, and then discharging that battery into the grid via an inverter?
I'm thinking if a 10watt bulb is keeping it under control an inverter might use more power than it produces?
mini advantage, you could have it set to discharge as/when needed, or on a timer so you knew when to put the washer on :-)

George, A 3mtr limit yet there is a 4.8mtr utility pole shown in the picture - maybe you should stick it on top of that? Regards Richard

Result Is this the first grid connected Rutland Marlec 503 Quality Chinese grid tie inverter acquired . Rated at 10.8v -32 v dc . MPPT tracking 13-24v if i remember correctly. 25V DC 32000UF capacitor as a battery and Oatley electronics diverting at 26v ish to light bulbs. Gusting well today and actually working quite well . Is this the smallest grid tie wind turbine ? makes me smile -convinced the house lights are brighter tonight ............... lol George
