Also good for Scotland if they were to get divorced from the UK. . Someone is thinking ahead?

I think the article's been updated: it now states it's 50 MW, with an hour of storage, so 50MWh. By comparison, Whitelee windfarm, to which it will be attached, is 539 MW. So this is about providing within-half-hour smoothing and ancillary services.

So there we have it, we now know that the internationally recognised football pitch equates to 100MWh of battery

So there we have it, we now know that the internationally recognised football pitch equates to 100MWh of battery Apologies for introducing petty pedantry to the issue, but many of these battery deployments incorporate containerization, which will, I assume, at some point introduce the issue of vertical growth too. This might result in a shift from football pitches to a more volume based metric. Since my home country is often used for land area comparisons, I can foresee a shift from Wales' to Whales' ...

I don't do football, don't know how big a football pitch is, so looked it up on the web. The general rule seems to be as follows: Standard pitch 105 by 68 metres (115 yd × 74 yd) = 7,140 square metres (76,900 sq ft; 1.76 acres; 0.714 ha). It appears that there are all sorts of sizes and aspect ratios that fit within the envelope.

For rugby football union, the maximium permissible size of a pitch is 100m try line to try line, and 70m touch line to touch line. In goal areas can be up to 22m deep. So the full length of the marked out pitch area can be as long as 144m end goal line to end goal line. Pitches can of course be smaller, but basically they can't be bigger than that.
For association rules football, the maximum permissible size is 120m long goal line to goal line, and up to 90m touch line to touch line, although for International Matches the pitch must between 100-110m long and 65-75m wide.
Twickenham is 125m x 70m (12m in goal length at each end) Wembley is 105m x 69m.

This might result in a shift from football pitches to a more volume based metric.
The three dimensional metric of "football pitches" would surely be "Wembley Stadiums" (Stadia...?)

For small wind farms you could use a London Double Decker bus as a measurement, which has the added bonus you can stack them to give upward expansion ie cubic bus.... plus they are going battery powered !!!!

No but hang on, when it comes to volume it's usually described in terms of Olympic-standard swimming pools?!
Those are 50m long, up to 25m wide (dependinding on the number of lanes but 10 is preferred) with a minimum depth of 2m, 3m is preferred.
What's the weight of all that water I wonder?

Obviously 50 x 25 x 3 = 3,750 tonnes.

Hi Nowty, Are you using the comma (,) in the European sense or British sense as I'm pretty sure that should be three and three quarters of a tonne (3 point 750 in British terms) rather than three thousand seven hundred and fifty tonnes Ian.
