Get a car head lamp, (a known wattage so you can calculate current draw) and run it off the battery for a few hours and note the voltage before and after.

That is only part of it.  Starting (cranking) current is far more important than total capacity at, say C/25.  Add in lower temperatures (battery and engine, particularly for diesels) and the problem escalates somewhat.
