Spot on, the Comms Service Provider for the North/Scotland is Arqiva, in the main using the "Flexnet" radio system from Sensus.

Flexnet is well-proven in other rollouts, although in the UK "North" Arqiva is responsible for its installation, the backhaul networks and the "balance of system". If they are behind the network rollout programme agreed in the contract with DECC (as was), there are non-trivial penalty clauses. I suspect problems around Flyingdales are the least of their problems.... whistlie

Might be worth asking Octopus for the rollout out plan, they would certainly have sight of it.

Thanks, did ask, but will ask again

I did a bit of digging about found a guy who installs SMETs2 meter around here, it turns out that the MOD have not signed off on the 450 comms hub yet, but its expected to be early next year. Apparently nothing can be installed within 70 miles of flyingdales until then.

70 miles sounds a little far fetched to me, that includes Hull, Leeds, probably Bradford, Teeside, and probably Newcastle, with all areas between. I'm near Leeds and keep getting pestered to have a Smart meter which I am still hesitating about.

After my previous post I checked with the person who had given me the 40mile measurement.
He fits meters for EON and was passing on what he had been told.
I did a search on The Arqiva site and found this https://www.arqiva.com/about-us/our-infrastructure.html
So it looks like most of the east side of the Pennines is fed by 2 masts Emley Moor ( Huddersfield ) and Marley Hill ( Gateshead )
Emley Moor is 66miles to Fylingdales,
Marley Hill is 56miles to Fylingdales

Both these sites have been in operation for many years so that's probably how they got away with the new infrastructure
I am 40 miles from Marley Hill and 52 miles from Emley Moor and probably on the limits for SMETS 2

So east of the A1 for North and East Yorks are in the area of if it works it works and if it does not hard luck.

Most of Teeside gets its TV from Bilsdale located on the North York moors, it too has been there for many years (50+) and is less than 20 miles from Flyingdales

I supposed the main thing the comment(s) seems correct, the detailed correct distance may be somewhere around these numbers. Anyway hopefully when the comms get signed off early 2021 I should be able to get onto the Agile tariff.
