I've been in France once more / awhile now & it's nice to see things opening up, folk being sensible & a great absence of Brit tourists is in evidence, have not heard any UK accents bar some locals.

Witnessed numerous chunks off the bottom of the bossons glacier  yesterday & today of varying sizes, & some collapse further up lumps the size of a typical car coming away & hurtling down, the change as per a year ago (though I visit at Xmas too) is very pronounced, sharp penitentes (ice spikes) have popped into view top & bottom.

Did a long day hike up & around with my daughter, both leg injury & no exercise since November combined with lockdown inertia, steroids & weight gain made it a pig on a hot day, standing at my usual points of reference for almost the last 20 years of visiting chamonix makes me want to weep.

I cannot stress the visible loss from both afar & close up each year,  it is ramping up something awful.

On a slightly positive note there are plenty of  tesla model 3's zooming about (finally) as are a few other bevs that are starting to be noticeable in quantity on most trips out.
The Sallanche tesla super charging station (6 slots I think) is busy without being crowded, giving good access to a multitude of resorts & destinations, seems that the 3 doesn't quite pump enough air con to the rear passengers maybe!? as the majority have rear windows open & arms out whenever I see them.

Geneva airport is / was running at 5% capacity when we came through, as was Heathrow who start told me was a max of 5000 per day.

Tourists have started appearing but it is very quiet, hikers making the most of it as are the red bull helmet wearing squirrel suit flyers getting some air time, ..oh to be young & aerodynamic! ..my cup of tea, just not my generation sadly!

Glaciers are in the mire, temperature was 22 in the shade & 28+ in the open, 30 at valley level ...too hot

Just an update...

Whilst we were there this happened...
(on the other side of the bossons glacier NOT accessed via the lift, this is left of the glacier nearer to the town of chamonix) ..compared to the popular access(ish) to view via the local chairlift).

Like I say, there was an insane amount of melt last week / this summer, ..might be about to spit out some more bodies too!

Sadly, despite great time spent on phones to hire companies, nope which to me highlights great deception on part of those claiming to offer them, ..No emails answered from them either.

& I think I wrote that there are 6  Tesla supercharger slots at sallanche carrefour, ..there are in fact 4.
