Maybe we are congratulating ourselves too soon on buying our electric car.

A podcast from the Guardian..

There's no material harvested or manufactured by humans that doesn't in some way pollute the environment or exploit a people in its collection. I'd prefer for the press to put forward the cutting edge alternative that they know of rather than 'raising awareness'.

It comes down to 'pay your money, take your chance'. I don't lose any sleep over it.

A physicist acquaintance of mine informed me that the Afghan war (latest a few years ago) was primarily to ensure control of the Lithium in the country. Another pal who served there wasn't too happy with that as he was up until that moment certain he'd been there for freedom. liberation and the destruction of the Taliban. As I say,  'pay your money, take your chance'.

Is there a Lithium recycling industry yet?

That's great to read Tod, I worked for Norsk Hydro, heavy hitter with some serious brain. I would have thought that a break even or minimal profit on lithium extraction and storage of same would work. Does Elon not have a gigafactory in Europe, surely it makes sense to close the circle by having a R&D facility followed by processing to reclaim lithium from Scrapped batteries?

Fully Charged did an episode on battery recycling a while back. Discharging all the packs arriving at the beginning of the process powers the recycling facility !

Hope the link works or alternatively just search "fully charged battery recycling" on youtube.
