On a larger scale (say, of the solar system, galaxy, universe) it's not really fuel which we're short of, it's oxygen.

Large planets such as Jupiter and Saturn are mostly made up of flammable gas (methane for example). So we've got a potential source of more fuel, if we need it - but we'll run out of oxidant!
