ok,  heres my example just say i had a 110 ah 12 volt battery , will that last 110 hour s ? and at what output current, or have i misunderstood things ? Is it just a rough guide ?..... thanks again

10 x 100w Canadian Solar Panels ,1 x C60 Xantrex controller & BTS, 1 x Studer C2600 24v , 4 x 6V Rolls 453ah batteries . 1 x Lorentz surface pump ps150 , 2 x 40w kyocera panels KC40 , cheap charge controller and 60ah battery .

Nope - and I think the system of marking them is silly.

a 100ah battery should do 1 amp for 100 hours, or 100 amps for 1 hour.


but they dont - never.

never discharge a battery (lead acid) beyond 50% - preferably not beyond 70% - so you get 30amps for 1 hour or 1 amp for 30 hours reguarly without screwing the battery

Thanks for that , -great site this , up until now have been using an american site this is much more applicable . i just got " secrets of lead acid batteries and needed a bit of clarification , thanks  again .

and..

where said battery is a few years old and will only hold 70% of its original charge and it won't charge beyond 95%  So the useful power at 70% discharge is only 20ah out of the original 100.  If you run an inverter, add in charging losses, (is that 50%) and all the wires and switches, 67% wind efficiency and 16% solar, add in all the energy it took to make the damnable stuff and one wonders if it is really worth it .  wackoteapot


Must dash, got to check the bottom of tank temperature and the wind speed, oh and the battery electrolyte level and the blackwater tank heat recovery system is not working.......
