Yesterday I filled a solar tube ('Navitron Solar Kettle') with approx. 1.4litres of water at around 11.30pm. Around 2pm we made cups of tea with it - as it had been boiling away to itself. The tube was refilled, and by 4.30pm when kids' dinner cooking began, the water was boiling once again - so used for cooking pasta. That's two batches of water heated to boiling point by a single tube during the day (0.3kWh of electricity saved, or over 1kWh of gas saved). I guess if I started early I would manage three batches in the day.
