Hi rog

I recently got a quote for new forklift batteries

Quote
12 Zellen 8 PzS 1000 HS  2252,-

Frachtkosten: 270,-

battery is from http://www.bae-berlin.de/doku/NOVA_trans_en_102005.pdf
I did ask because Eleanor was looking for some (but she was faster then my quote)

that second hand one looks not too bad , but its a gamble with second hand ones  Roll Eyes  you can make a 24 volt out of it with 1250 ah

http://cgi.ebay.de/Gabelstapler-Staplerbatterie-Gabelstaplerbatterie-48V_W0QQitemZ280416279684QQcmdZViewItemQQptZHebe_Hydrauliktechnik?hash=item414a1cdc84

more second hand ones here

http://shop.ebay.de/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=staplerbatterie&_sacat=See-All-Categories

The cells that are made for off grid /stationary  use are called OPzS

I got quotes 2 years ago direct from supplier BAE  and Hoppecke  for 800 ah 24 volt for about 3200 euro excl. vat  surrender

But i asked trough a business

I keep an eye open  Wink

Rog they are called OPzS  !  And the quotes i got from China were the same to the ones made in Germany , so i didnot even think of getting them from China

i went for a second hand forklift one in the end

To get a OPzS one ( i still think they are very good)  with 800 ah at 24 volt C10 i would have paid 3500 euro exl. vat and delivery  and that size would have meant that i constantly cycle  it to 50 -70%  ( or run the diesel generator every day)

So i got a 1600 ah second hand forklift one for 1500 euro delivered to my door  that i cycle 20-30 %  ok now in winter a bid more

Anyhow i am glad upto now  and happy not have done the mistake to undersize an expensive OPzS

If i would have that extra cash i  would go for a OPzS but then double the capacity that i first thought of and then rest in peace for a live

But again i saved that money and bought 2.4 kw more PV  Grin

see the cycle live of OPzS cells attached

rog  like said earlier a second hand battery can be a bid of a gamble and i would ask around the forklift places in your area first

Rog here a new listing

http://cgi.ebay.de/Staplerbatterie-Gabelstaplerbatterie-Batterie-80V420Ah_W0QQitemZ220508079216QQcmdZViewItemQQptZHebe_Hydrauliktechnik?hash=item33574e4470

and this one i still try to find out if he has 12 cells  and how old they are

they are OPzs (i hope )  6000 ah each  whistlie  and each 2 volt cell weights over 500 kg  .... perhaps a bid too big  Grin, but he has them in 3000 ah as well

i try to find out and he is close to the French border in Germany

...there's also such as thing as having too much battery.  Recommended minimum charge current is usually 5% of C20 capacity = 150A for the 3000Ah battery.

For new 48V forklift batts I was quoted 3200 euro's for a 6PzSH840,
Another quote was for 7Pzs735 24 cells ==> 2528.25 EURO (from batterysupplies.be)

so theoretically you should expect half that for a 24V version.

and that's not much more than what they're charging on ebay for used cells.

thanks guys all really interesting looking at some of the other posts on battery's i can see its a constant debate which way to go, people seem very happy with forklift batts new and old and it looks like they are what half the price of opz s and I'm not shore people thing that much of that well know red usa battery range ? i guess its ongoing, also here in France you have to have a rubber stamped paper to get forklift batts now

HI Stephend please can you let me know if your quote from battsupplys.b was with or without Tax and metal case and when was this ? also does the no at the beginning of the ref example 5 PzS 680 mean 5 plates ? and does and is it the more plates the better ? oh yes and can you tell me what is the correct way to lift the cells? can you lift them bye the terminals ouch! that's what i had to do last time can see no other way, but maybe i dammag ed them doing this.
one last question can you get the air pump system to fit all PzS cells is it universal ? it sounds like a good invention

thanks Rog

Received the quote on 31 August 2009, prices were ex-works and ex VAT:
Traction battery:
7Pzs735
24 cells ==> 2528.25 EURO

OPZS battery:
OPZS 700
24 cells ==> 4687.2 EURO

Didn't discuss whether this includes the container or not.

AFAIK, yes the number in front refers to the plates.  I would first pick an appropriate OPzS battery for your needs and note the number of plates, the dry weight (not wet!) and of course the Ah at a given C rate.  Then look through the PzS catalogue and choose one that most closely matches those same specs of the OPzS.
